Inter's winning run halted by Lecce

Soccer Betting Lines

01/29/2012 - Lecce, Italy (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Inter Milan saw its seven-match winning streak in Serie A come to an end on Sunday at Lecce as Guillermo Giacomazzi's 40th- minute goal was enough to give the hosts a 1-0 win.

The goal arrived from a Massimo Oddo ball into the penalty area that Giacomazzi brought down and fired past goalkeeper Julio Cesar on the turn.

Inter cranked up the pressure in the second half and had two goals called back for offsides before a string of saves from Lecce goalkeeper Massimiliano Benassi preserved the win.

The first stop denied Ricardo Alvarez before he made another save on Maicon. But the best effort of the day came in the game's final minute as Benassi reacted well to keep out a close-range header from Giampaolo Pazzini following an Alvarez free kick.

Lecce remains in the bottom three but moves to within three points of safety having collected seven points from its last three matches.

Inter drops back to fifth place and nine points off the pace of leaders Juventus.

AC Milan 3, Cagliari 0

Milan, Italy - Zlatan Ibrahimovic scored his Serie A-high 15th goal and added an assist, as AC Milan rolled to a 3-0 win over Cagliari on Sunday at the San Siro to move back within one point of Serie A leader Juventus.

Ibrahimovic scored off a free kick after 32 minutes, then chested down a pass for Antonio Nocerino to hammer home for his seventh goal in the 39th.

Massimo Ambrosini added an insurance goal in the 75th, as Milan clinched its fifth win in its last six. The defending Serie A champions are second on 43 points behind unbeaten leader Juve.

Cagliari lost for the third time in its last six as it slipped to 13th with just 23 points from 20 matches.

Fiorentina 2, Siena 1

Florence, Italy - Fiorentina claimed its second win in seven matches on Sunday with a 2-1 home triumph over Siena.

Stevan Jovetic notched the opening goal after four minutes and Cesare Natali doubled the lead shortly after the hour mark for the Viola.

Emanuele Calaio handed Siena a chance to get back into the game with a penalty kick in the 89th minute following a handball from Matija Nastasic, but the hosts held out for all three points and move nine points clear of the drop zone, with Siena sitting only three points above the bottom three.

Atalanta 1, Cesena 0

Cesena, Italy - Atalanta ended a three-match losing streak on Sunday as Marco Rossi's own goal gave the visitors a 1-0 win at Cesena.

A cross from Ezequiel Schelotto in the 76th minute was deflected by Rossi into his own net, but Cesena was given a chance three minutes later when Atalanta's German Denis received a second yellow card.

Substitute Jorge Martinez had the best chance over the final 10 minutes when his shot from eight yards in the dying moments was kept out by goalkeeper Andrea Consigli, dealing Cesena its fifth loss in six matches.

Lazio 3, Chievo 0

Verona, Italy - Lazio climbed into the top four on Sunday after notching a 3-0 win at Chievo that moves the club to within two points of third-place Udinese.

Edy Reja's side had lost two of its last three games but started well with Hernanes putting the visitors ahead after 21 minutes.

The teams remained separated by just one goal until the final minutes, when Lazio's Miroslav Klose tallied two late goals to seal the win and move his team past Inter Milan.

Chievo is 12th following the loss, which is the club's second in four games.

Genoa 3, Napoli 2

Genoa, Italy - Two goals from Rodrigo Palacio helped Genoa to a 3-2 win over Napoli on Sunday at the Luigi Ferraris Stadium as the hosts survived a late scare to remain in the top half of the league.

Genoa entered the contest having lost three of its last four games, but got off to a fantastic start as first-half strikes from Palacio and Alberto Gilardino put the hosts up two goals at the break.

Palacio appeared to wrap up the points with his second goal of the match 20 minutes from time, but Napoli rallied to pull to within a goal in the final 10 minutes as Edinson Cavani and Ezequiel Lavezzi scored three minutes apart.

The rally fell short, however, and Napoli saw its four-game unbeaten streak come to an end.

Palermo 2, Novara 0

Palermo, Italy - Palermo dealt last-place Novara its fourth successive defeat on Sunday as two goals from Igor Budan gave the hosts a 2-0 win at the Renzo Barbera.

Fabrizio Miccoli played provider on both of Budan's goals, with the first coming four minutes before halftime on a header.

Palermo had lost two of its previous three contests, but another header from Budan in the 72nd minute after Miccoli's cross secured the win and keeps the club in the top eight.

Novara is seven points from safety and looks to be facing a real battle to stay in the top flight.

Roma 1, Bologna 1

Rome, Italy - Roma saw its run of four straight wins in Serie A come to a halt at the Stadio Olimpico on Sunday as bottom-half side Bologna claimed a 1-1 draw.

Marco Di Vaio gave the visitors the lead in the 56th minute, with Roma answering through Miralem Pjanic six minutes later to salvage a point.

Both sides had chances to snatch the win, but both had to settle for a point, which gives Bologna three successive draws and moves the club five points clear of the bottom three.

College Football Betting Tips From a Pro

While the NFL is the sport wagered on the heaviest, college football betting lines has become more and more popular as people realize it’s a game that can be beat. The NCAA football season gets longer each year with the addition of numerous bowl games and with that comes more opportunities for more money in your pocket, if handled correctly.

Betting on college football is not the same as with the NFL, so make sure you separate the two. Because of the vast number of teams, the parity between college football programs is slight and thus, you are going to see some high numbers in the NCAA. Teams favored by more than 40 points are not uncommon especially early in the season when teams playing their non-conference schedules.

The best advice when trying to tackle these enormous spreads and is to just stay away. A team that is favored by 40 points is favored by that many for a reason while teams getting 40 points are bad enough that they shouldn’t be touched. Set yourself a spread limit. Getting rid of these games will cut down on the number of contests that you need to handicap while staying away from backdoor or front-door covers.

What is a backdoor and front-door cover you ask? A backdoor cover is a team that is getting beat by more than the spread, but scores late to get within that number thus covering the spread. A front-door cover is just the opposite where the favorite scores late and covers the number they are favored by.

These front-door and backdoor covers are common when second and third string players enter games in college football and it can be the worst nightmare for some bettors. These players can also be your best friend, but ask any bettor and he will give you more instances on losing in this situation than winning. It just seems to work out that way even though everything evens out in the end.

College football betting has some of the softest lines of any sport and it’s being able to find these lines that will make you a successful college football handicapper. The NFL and NBA have the tightest lines around and while those sports can be beat by looking at situations and systems, college football doesn’t quite work that way. It’s much more manual, but when done correctly, it’s much more gratifying as well.

Getting into the nuts and bolts of college football means looking at the many stats in order to beat the number. As opposed to pro football, college football is less dependent on situations and angles and more on certain statistics. Rushing offense and defense, pass efficiency offense and defense and turnover margins are huge. These are vital in the NFL, but even more so when it comes to college football.

Being able to run the ball in college football has always been a key factor in the overall success of a team. The same adage also goes for teams who have the ability to stop the run. Putting these two factors together can produce some positive results in a team’s record both straight up and against the spread. These numbers show huge differences in teams and the spread may not take those into effect, which is where the value comes into play.

Passing yardage numbers both for and against can be a misinterpreted statistic. However, pass efficiency has always been one of the best ways to look at a teams’ passing game ability both offensively and defensively. But is it really a true indication of how they perform? I wouldn’t say so since they are raw passing numbers with nothing else taken into consideration.

I use pass efficiency ratings when doing my handicapping but I adjust my numbers based on a number of factors including power ratings, strength of schedules, personnel and injuries. This gives a much better picture of a team’s ability to pass effectively and also being able to defend the pass. Tweaking pass efficiency stats instead of raw passing yards is the key.

Turnovers are the single most frustrating, and at times the most gratifying, aspect of a college football lines, mostly because they are so unpredictable. They are part of the game and most of the time nothing can be done to control them. However, turnovers are contagious and they can carry over from game to game and season to season.

It’s important to know how to forecast these unforeseen events and how to use them to your advantage. You can find ways to give yourself an edge by looking at past histories of teams and coaches and how they have fared in turnover wars in the past. Instead of turnovers hurting you at the wrong times, find ways to use them to your advantage.

As you can see, college football handicapping is very labor intensive and isn’t just based on where teams are ranked in the AP and coaches polls. Experience, coaching and match-ups are all important since unlike the NFL, college teams turn over much more often with new personnel at most positions every single year. Keeping current on this information is vital.

Betting NCAA football can be lucrative if done correctly, but more importantly, it’s just plain enjoyable because it can be beat. College football is one of the best sports to watch with some of the best rivalries taking place in all of sports. The only downfall is that a championship isn’t decided on the field but on a computer-based system that is the Bowl Championship Series. That will change someday and we will all be better off for it.
